2002 Pastel Portrait Fees

Larger portraits are also available.  Prices for portraits of deceased family members, when adequate photo references are available, are comparable to the above and are negotiable.

Base price includes one subject with plain background.  Photography, travel and framing expenses are extra. Framing is available through the artist.  There may be an additional charge for delivery if special shipment is required, or if it is not possible or feasible for the artist to deliver the painting in person.

At the time of commission, 50% of the agreed price is due, with the balance due when the client gives final approval of the work.

Clients are welcome to sit for portraits; however, most people prefer the artist to work from reference material.  My first session with a client, approximately two hours, includes discussions to determine the best way to realize the client’s purpose and vision for the painting through pose, background, and size of painting. Consideration will be given to where the portrait will hang. Photographic references and color notes are usually taken at this time.  Based on the above, the final price will be established. 

In my studio, the reference proofs will be narrowed down to 4 to 8 poses, which will be provided to the client for the final selection of the pose.  Prior to the completion of  the portrait, the client is invited to my studio for final approval.  A painting is not finished until the client is fully satisfied. Regardless of the subject, whoever commissions the portrait is considered the client, unless otherwise specified.
